Introducing “Uncorked” Wine Consultants

We recently partnered with Uncorked Wine Consultants for White Dinner Events.
In the Spring we will be able to feature wine tastings and suggestions that can be either delivered to your door or to the White Dinner Event you are attending.

Courtney Gebben is the CEO and founder of Uncorked and has a passion for wine to share with you.
She explains,

After 10 years of creating wine programs for private Country Clubs, building private cellars, selling cellars and consulting, the services once only provided to a select few are brought to the public.
Uncorked Wine Consulting is my vision and execution to making wine approachable. Wine does not have to be a black box reserved for the few with the vocabulary (or perceived vocabulary) to discuss and enjoy wine. Wine is unique in that it is a completely subjective experience described differently by every individual. Sharing that experience and the differences with one another is the intrigue that ultimately keeps wine lovers, both aficionados and novice, returning for more.
Education, approachability and appreciation of one another’s differences and experiences are the hallmarks of my services. Enhancing your wine knowledge, enjoyment and vocabulary are my goals.

October White Dinner Event

The October event is fast approaching! Saturday October 27, 2012 is the date; 5:30 is the time.
Tables will be available at 5:00 for set up.

Twilight at a White Dinner Event

The sunset will happen at 6:39 so we will have some nice twilight time.

Right now the weather looks like it will be quite nice: 77 high, 59 low 61% humidity and 10% chance of rain.
Just in case we need a rain date, October 28, Sunday, and as a further back up contingency, November 3, the following Saturday, if the entire weekend gets hit with rain.

Getting ready for a White Dinner Event

Joanie and I just ordered our platinum blonde wigs from Amazon! Putting together what we wear is almost as fun as the event itself!
If any of you ladies are looking for a white wrap, Marshall’s at Cotswold has 2 Kate Spade white faux-fur stolls on sale for $39 marked from the original selling price of $275.00. They also have some cute Calvin Klein white faux-fur short jackets.

Our locations for the October event will be:
1) 968 Bromley Road – the same location as last time.
IF we get over 100 guests coming, we will host the event at:
2) Eastover Neighborhood Park off Randolph Road in front of and adjacent to the Mint Museum.
This location is “Primitive” in that there are no shelters or buildings and very little light. We would need to make arrangements for a Port-o-let to have facilities available.

In the Spring, we are looking at hosting events at the Pergola and multi-use field next to Trader Joe’s at the Metropolitan along the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. We think that is the perfect spot for next years events. Unfortunately though, that location has been reserved for this year.

How do I sign up?

Go to the Products tab, click on White Dinner event and then select which kind of ticket you want to buy. Full table tickets are limited..
If you refer someone, have them mention your name in the “special instructions”. If you refer 6, you will receive a bottle of lovely sparkling wine to enjoy.
We will receive an e-mail notifying us of your ticket purchase that will place you on the confirmed list.

September’s White Dinner Event

The September event, when it finally happened, was a great success!
Saturday, at the initial scheduled start time, the sky opened and it not only rained but thunder and lightning.
We did a quick survey and since most people were available on Sunday, we rescheduled.

Sunday was gorgeous weather! Behind the storm front, came lower temperatures and less humidity, which made it very pleasant to be outside. We washed and scrubbed the tables then set them into place. It took a team of us to blow up balloons. Next time, we are letting the professionals do it. White it was fun doing it, we could all see how it would be a tiring chore at every event.

After so many moving parts, the hour was finally upon us.

6:30 the first guests arrive to begin the table set up. They are excited and having a lot of fun setting their tables.
Carved pineapples,candelabra, lanterns, candles in glass jars and a tree full of white twinkle lights set the stage for a magical evening.

People arrived as strangers and left as friends.
The light during twilight was an amazing blue.

The sky was Maxfield Parrish blue as twilight waned

You can see it in the sky in some of the photos.

We put hibiscus flowers in champagne. The flowers were preserved in syrup and a luxurious touch. Such a nice treat; Thank you ladies!


After it got dark, each table got a box of sparklers.
Everyone lit their sparkler at different times and it was so much fun!

The sparklers lit up faces for great photographs. Each sparkler lasted for 1-1/2 minutes.

We talked, exchanged information, numbers and so many names!

FAQ:
Why 5:30PM?
The events center around the time of sunset. We schedule the event to begin an hour before sunset, move through twilight into night. This is why we schedule them on Saturday; so there is time to rest on Sunday.

White Dinner Event Rescheduled

Much to our dismay, We have to postpone this evenings event until tomorrow evening;
Sunday, 9/9; from 7-9 PM.
Tables will be available for set up at 6:30.

The house is located at the corner of Morehead and Bromley, just between the Kings Road farmers market and Ronald McDonald House.
Look for the white balloons marking the home on the left of Morehead and parking on the right of Morehead.

Updates on White Dinner Events

The White Dinner Event for tomorrow is nearly sold out!
As of 1 PM Friday, there are 14 12 spaces remaining.

If you are having any issues with the shopping cart, please use Google Chrome as the browser. For some reason, Chrome works best with the cart.

Wondering about the Weather?

As Saturdays event draws near, I find myself looking at the weather forecast and wondering just how fast that front will work through the area on Saturday.

I believe, the system will pass through and come event set-up time at 6:30 -7 our skies will be clear, the temperature dropping a bit, and best of all, humidity lowered.

While we have no control over what happens with the weather, we will need to watch and see what happens.

There are options if we do get rained out.
Option 1:
Everyone’s ticket will be honored at the October 27th event. Tickets will be mailed to those who have paid.

Option 2:
What about holding the event on Sunday the 9th of September? Same time and place.
Please let me know your availability and thoughts on this Sunday.

Option 3:
Refunding ticket prices. While everyone signed on for a great event, if Sunday or October does not fit your schedule, we will be glad to refund your ticket price.

NEW PRICING STRUCTURE!

Because of your feedback, we have adjusted the pricing structure.
The International Society of Diner en Blanc suggests a fee of $35.00 per event.
This is the customary charge at international events all over the world, some more.

However, due to your feedback, we are making adjustments from International guidelines to better fit Charlotte events.

We hope the new fee structure will make the entire event more accessible to those wanting to attend.

Briefly:
Single ticket for 1 person: $18.50
Couples ticket for 2 people $35.00
Table Ticket for up to 6 people $60.00

All reservations must be made 2 days ahead of the event. Reservation requests made after are subject to availability.

These fees cover the use of the grounds, tables, chairs, parking, toilet facilities, security, alcohol consumption permits, insurance and licensing fees.
